Concert in the Park
Charnwood Borough Council have commissioned a series of concerts to be performed in the bandstand on Loughborough's Queen's Park. We went to the first one of the season today, given by the LSU concert band. I was delighted to hear the theme tune of The Mandalorian as I pushed my walker, hesitatingly, across the park. Five more bands to come, plus the Loughborough Male Voice Choir across the summer.
We had takeaway latte and a Magnum each from the cafe while we sat in the sun close to a horse chestnut tree shedding its blossom. Loughborough was busy and there was a good audience for the concert.
On opening the enews from PAGB this morning, I was saddened to learn that Kevin Maskell had died in early April. I had known that he had cancer. He was a very keen blipper. See his profile. His last entry was on 22nd November last year. His wife Margery had been keeping it up to date for him.
Kevin's book, Themes, is available to buy from Blurb. The £5 profit from each sale goes towards Cancer Research.
Extras are of a mallard keeping guard in the middle of one of the ponds and of the mould for Great Paul (the bell in Big Ben), which was made by Taylors bell foundry in Loughborough.
