Whimper

And this is the way the season ends, not with a bang but a whimper (with apologies to TS Eliot).

So Falkirk finished their league campaign in second place. No automatic promotion, but a place in the playoffs. Our first-leg semi-final tie against Airdrie last Tuesday did not go well for the Bairns - a thumping defeat 6-2. The second leg was this afternoon and although few Falkirk fans expected us to score the four goals required, we expected - well, hoped - we'd put on a good performance and at least win our home leg.

It wasn't to be. Lots of effort and endeavour but lacking the quality required. Airdrie won 0-1 and go on to the play-off finals, while Falkirk's season is over for another year.

Undaunted I've renewed my season ticket and will be back when it all kicks off again in August. I must be mad.
