Scenes from everyday life

Salisbury Cathedral Close

We had firm plans for today: the Salisbury and South Wilts Museum this morning where Clare was keen to see the collections of archaeological finds from Stonehenge and Avebury, then on to Wilton House this afternoon.

Unfortunately we hadn't appreciated that the archaeological galleries at the museum are closed until 2014 for a makeover. We felt £8 a head for what remained open was rather steep, so made do with exploring the Close around the Cathedral and using our National Trust memberships to visit Mompesson House. This is the view from its main bedroom.

After lunch, Wilton House was splendid. I wouldn't want to live there: too imposing and draughty; but good to be able to visit it.
