Alert
I spent an hour in Holme Fen NNR this morning, before spending the afternoon training my group of aspiring botanists at a local ecological consultancy.
I had the reserve to myself and rejoiced in the vivid greens of emerging ferns, Bracken, Silver Birch and Alder and the songs of Garden Warbler and Blackcaps. At one point three Cuckoos were calling simultaneously, and the regular Raven family were quite vociferous, producing a surprising range of vocalisations.
I was on my way back to the car when I came across this Muntjac Deer. I stopped as soon as I saw it and we spent some time staring at each other before it stamped its foot imperiously and headed off into the ferny undergrowth.
