Time out

I spent a couple of hours at Holme Fen, a quiet interlude in an otherwise very busy week. The Bracken fronds were unfurling, producing wonderful curlicues, and the slightly warmer weather had brought out many invertebrates including both Scarce and Four-spotted Chasers. They were mostly busy hunting, but I managed to find a couple sunning themselves on a particularly warm and sheltered bank of Bracken. I heard at least four Cuckoos calling - three at one time - and the Raven family and Cormorant chicks were also being very vocal!
