Pelicans take flight

We disturbed a pod of pelicans today while photographing a  large lake which comes and goes on an 8,000 acre property belonging to very long standing and dear friends. Pelicans are very elegant in flight and it was so quiet out on this remote property that we could hear the sound of their wing movements, even from a considerable distance.

I used my zoom lens to capture these two pelicans who were straggling behind the rest of the pod. The extra shows more of the pod once they settled down again.
