Stuff and Nonsense

Gannets #46

The day started out well when I spotted a yellow wagtail on the grass outside our holiday cottage whilst eating my cereal - the first of the year.
We then headed over to Sewerby Hall as it was just around the corner and was also hosting a "Wildlife Photographer of the Year" exhibition - what better reason to visit? We had a little look around the zoo before the house and exhibition opened. There was also a small exhibition about Amy Johnson, the aviator, which was really interesting, and then on to the main exhibition - what magnificent shots some of them were and what lengths people go to "get the shot" - standing up to their neck in water, lying in snow and waiting for hours sometimes. I don't know how they have the patience and stamina, but I'm glad they do so I can see their work.
After a quick lunch we headed over to Bempton for probably our last visit of the trip as it looks like rain tomorrow morning. Today it was the gannets who were the stars, soaring majestically in great numbers and honking away on their nests when another one gets too close. Just magnificent birds and possibly my favourite seabird.
There are some additional gannet shots in extras if you have the need to see some more.
Thanks so much for all the love you gave for yesterday's "Clowns of the Sea"
