Cock a doodle doo
This chap lives on the allotment next to mine and originally came from my sister - one of their bantam chicks that wasn't a girl!! He isn't officially allowed on the site, but there are no houses nearby to complain and I enjoy listening to his cheerful crowing as he attempts to organise his womenfolk (unsuccessfully most of the time).
I made it up to the allotment in the morning and managed a few jobs, such as uncovering the onions and shallots. The risk of allium leaf miner is much reduced now and I needed something to cover the gooseberries. There was a good crop of gooseberries last year, but the birds got it before me. I'm hoping I get my share this year with a bit of help from the covering. I also managed to edge most of the paths as I finally remembered to take the edging shears and then a bit of weeding. I removed the bindweed from the alliums and managed to start on the broad beans. No obvious blackfly yet, but I did notice some ants heading up and down the plants which is ominous.
