Dumfries, but not Dumfries

It seems apt that I started this journey in Dumfries, and ended it in Dumfries. But more of that later.

Not a good night's sleep, a beautiful room but an oh so hard mattress. Why do hotels do this? Had a swim, small pool and dire changing rooms but it stretched out my broken back.  Sat in the bay window looking at the sea, though no sign of Arran until it was time to go.

Off to Alloway on the Burns trail.  Walked to the Brig o' Doon, Alloway Old Kirk and the Monument before breakfast in the Museum cafe - bacon rolls!  After the museum back to the birthplace cottage, last visited in 1975!

And then it was homeward bound.  I suddenly discovered myself at the gates to Dumfries House so detoured to have a look.  The house was closed for a wedding but I had a good walk round the grounds and spent some money in the shop.  This is from where Charles was summoned as his mother was dying. Some beautiful plants and lots and lots of dogs.

Stopped off Sainsbury's on the way home to get some food for tonight but was very soon very tired. Watched a bit of 'Anneka', which I think perhaps worked better o R$, though Nicola Walker is always good value.  And read up about the LB changes.  Furore about the axing of #41 but the rerouting of the #47 means I can get to D' Mains and Cramond on one, direct,  bus.  As always, swings and roundabouts, winners and losers.

And that's the tiki tour of the SW over.
