tempus fugit

The storm beach at Abermawr

Winter waves create this shingle bank that shapeshifts with the seasons but never goes away. Below it,  and occasionally exposed, are the spongy remnants of prehistoric timber - the roots of trees inundated by the glacial melt at the end of the last ice age.

Today had to be the occasion of a visit to a favourite location. The sun shone from a cloudless sky illuminating all the colours of May: the hedgebanks speckled with stitchwort, cow parsley, red campion, buttercups and bluebells, the cliff edges swagged with clumps of thrift, bird's foot trefoil and sea campion (pink, yellow, white). We are so fortunate to be able to enjoy peak spring before the visitors arrive. By July the best of the floral display is over.
