Inspired by an ancient barn.
The building had been used as a Quaker school room during the 18th century and I was pleased that James, the farmer had allowed me to wander around taking photos before he joined me. He prised open two large doors and led me inside. ‘It’s a cruck barn’, he said and encouraged me to take a photo.
The beams were riddled with woodworm and covered in dusty cobwebs. The floor was littered with rusty machinery. I felt privileged to be shown such a historical gem in its raw state, untouched, so far, by English Heritage.
