Across the estuary

Today’s a day of quiet recuperation - blissfully free of any medical interventions. I’m still so tired, and have little energy for anything.

Still, the afternoon takes us out to buy some plants for the gentle weekend task of planting up our containers. It’s the only gardening I’m really up to.

The route allows some vantage points across the river Conwy, though the conditions make an interesting shot a challenge - appropriate I suppose, as that’s just what Wide Wednesday is! The air is hazy, mitigating against those gorgeous mountain backgrounds, the tide is high meaning there’s no mudbank interest, and the keen sea breeze means there are no reflections either! A drive up the valley might lead to better photo opportunities, but I really want to stay local.

I decide to go for the view from Deganwy Marina, an old winch in the foreground. Here the river estuary is wide, the banks distant, though in a few hours time, low tide will make them seem a mere walk away across the sand banks.

Then as we’re heading home, waiting at the interminably slow roadworks traffic lights, there’s a thundering sound as a huge dark shape looms into view. The massive dark grey bulk of an RAF A400M Atlas - replacement to the Hercules - flies past us, just above the river, almost touching distance from the car. I quickly get a shot of the surreal experience (in extras). We’re relatively used to low flying jets - especially in the mountains - but this was definitely in a different league!
