The Adega

A full day but a relaxing one which started watching 'Good Morning Sutton Baptist' hosted by Deb (mishkid) and her 'guests', which was very well done considering the music, photos and continuity that was required to put it all together.  This was the livestream of their 8:30 service.  Then on to a traditional breakfast of grapefruit and croissants with delicious orange and ginger marmalade.  Soon we were making our way up the steep hill to mass at the local Catholic church, where the Angolan priest treated us to pentecostal mass, though of course we were unable to partake of the elements being protestant heretics :).

Then a brief visit to the local festival  - celebrating migas (a local 'delicacy' though not particularly delicate - basically made from bread crumbs, water, olive oil and or pork fat and looks little like stuffing.  It is actually delicious.  We then proceeded into town for one of my favorite parts of the day to partake in some glasses of wine and snacks stood up in the front part of a local traditional restaurant where a bunch of local men prop up the bar and after a few drinks and a little encouragement turn into a group of 'cantores' singers and entertained us and other restaurant patrons with their local songs.  Their friendliness and welcome is very engaging, even extending to plying us with carafes of wine and in the photo, one of them even introduced us to a local 'aguardente' which is a strong liquor.  We shared a glass.  I discovered shortly before we left, that this particular gentleman was originally from France and I was able to communicate much more easily in French as the Portuguese here is rather different than the Brazilian version on Duolingo.

After a nap in the afternoon, we were off again to have our evening meal at a restaurant we had frequented before covid on a previous trip called Sem Fim and we were joined with Swedish friends of M and D, Bengt and Gunilla.  I was able to order migas as mentioned above and had some interesting discussions putting the world to rights before heading back to finish with Duolingo and this blip.  A most enjoyable day, and one in which we didn't have to up sticks and travel off again.  Goodnight!
