Tokeland
The reason for the trip is for SparseRunner to take part in the biggest conference in his field. He was here in 2019 for a different conference and this time we thought it would be a chance for me to visit a part of the US and Canada that he loved.
Today we hired a car and drove southwest to the charming Tokeland Hotel.
Named after Chief Toke who led the Shoalwater Bay tribe in the late 18th century, it is the oldest resort hotel in Washington state - from the late 19th century. A very quirky and relaxed place, filled with antiques (extra). It has lovely grounds where guests relax, and play games. Children and animals are welcome, are well behaved and play with each other and the resident dogs and cats.
SparseRunner stayed there in 2019 and knew I would love it!
After lunch at the hotel, we walked to old Tokeland pier, saw people collecting razor clams and fishing for crabs. There is a shop at the end of the road which sells all sorts of seafood including whole cooked crabs, oysters, smoked shellfish etc... We were full so only managed an oyster shooter.
Back at the hotel, we relaxed, before a nice seafood meal, and went for an early night.
