‘An Early Morning Challenge’
Every morning since we arrived here in Gran Tarajal, we have been doing an early morning run along the prom before having a leisurely breakfast.
Today, we decided to do something slightly more adventurous, to climb the mountain, ( more a rocky outcrop really) to the side of the town, which goes by the name of Piedras Caidas (’fallen stones’).
You get there via a steep, rough dirt track strewn with largish pebbles and small rocks, not exactly ideal for septuagenarian runners who find themselves less than sure-footed these days!
However, with careful slow jogging and a fair bit of walking too, we made it to the top.
The view is truly magnificent in all directions, with the town below, dramatic cliffs and a seemingly endless sea. The coast of North Africa - mere 60 miles away - is just visible to the naked eye (I think!).
All a bit different from my usual early morning jogs round the local park in Edinburgh!
