There was I, digging this hole, hole in the ground

This is Saltire Court, home of some big legal firms.

The site was originally occupied by the Symposium Hall - which was used by the Edinburgh 1910 World Mission Conference as an overspill facility for local people.

It was in due course demolished. There had been tentative plans, going back to 1960, to build a Festival Theatre here - but the site was dubbed the "Hole in The Ground", as an on-off saga developed. Eventually in 1988 it was ultimately leased to Scottish Metropolitan Property.
