Eston

After an appointment at the Heart and Lung Centre today I needed some down time.

The results of recent tests have prompted a reconsidering of my long term future and surgery is becoming more of a likelihood in the next six to twelve months.

More tests in the coming weeks but the message is coming through loud and clear.

Get yourself ready.. Tick tock.

My quiet time presented itself on the way home, passing the appealing little church at Aston Eyre I decided to stop and have a mooch.

It was great. I have rarely visited a church so simple, so understated and so peaceful. It was 'endowed' in the 12th century and never dedicated. Just known as The Church at Aston Eyre. Originally Eston /Eastern, as opposed to Weston which is three miles down the road.

Interesting too.

An open bell tower with two bells, plain glass leaded windows, a floor made from plain clay tiles and a Transitional Chancel arch. I love the fact that the grounds are grass and simple bedding borders. According to historical records they were not allowed to have graves in the grounds so all burials were carried out at nearby Morville Priory.

There is also a fine Tympanum. (I didn't know either, so I googled it) The carved stone panel above the porch door depicts Christ's journey into Jerusalem. (bottom left in extra)

Feeling fully revived and at peace with myself I continued home to Mrs I and Hollie dog.

All is well with the world...
