We are allowed to go to the beach, but are not allowed to go into the woods.
In the past 3 days there have been 8 illegal fires started in NS. There is a ban on open fires province wide and a ban of any activity in the woods. If you have a wooded area on your property you are allowed to be there, but cannot let anyone else be in those woods. I heard this afternoon that fines have been increased to $25,000 and if anyone is caught having a fire that gets out of control, they will have to pay the costs involved in fighting the fire. That may be the only way to get some peoples attention, hit them in the pocketbook.
A friend of mine messaged me at 6 am today, she had PVR's the news last night and a friend of ours was interviewed on TV. She is one of the ones that has been evacuated. She went to the evacuation center and had her dog with her. They have a separate are to keep animals. Her dog barked most of the night, so the next night she took her dog and they spent the night in her car. They gave her a pillow and a couple of blankets. She had had offers of a place to stay but she prefers to be independent. They are getting 3 hot meals a day at the evacuation center, her dog is getting fed and is being taken for walks. She remains upbeat about the whole situation, although she would like to get back home now. As a retired nurse, she is helping other evacuees cope with the stress.
