Health Check Time!

Today we finally got 'Georges' on the table for his initial health check! He's almost two years old and probably about two thirds grown, but still has quite a few more kilos to put on yet. He hasn't had a health check previously as he came to us as a 16kg cub with no health problems. So unless something crops up in the meantime, they are usually not health checked until around 2 years of age and then two yearly thereafter.

Here he is asleep in the TC (transport cage), prior to going into the surgery room. Our vet B. is checking his pupillary reflexes and jaw tone to make sure he is safe enough to pull out of the TC onto the large green tarp for easy lifting. After removing from the TC bears are then weighed, put on the table and wheeled into the surgery room where the receive a full check up including bloods, ultrasound, ECG, ophthalmic and dental exams.

Georges passed with flying colours today!
