A troubled bridge over water
Out for a walk in the village of Hampsthwaite today, our way was blocked. Unfortunately the old bridge across the river Nidd, which dates back to 1640, has had to be closed temporarily due to the appearance of a two inch wide crack at the edge of the bridge. I admit to stealing the image of the crack from a local website, but apparently you can see the river Nidd below through the gap! It is currently awaiting inspection by the council to asses the damage.
Several of my favourite cycling routes take me across this bridge, so when I get back on two wheels next week I shall have to take a circuitous and rather hilly detour.
