Anne and Anne
A normal start to the day.
Then it was arranged to meet Nicoiseannie at St Leonard’s Church in Old Warden.
A few days ago I had seen on a FB group post about the susbstantial restoration work about to start next month on the church, and it mentioned an area of crumbling plaster which may have revealed an early C17 religious text panel.
I thought it would be nice to reacquaint myself with some of the incredible ornate wooden carvings inside and also to see what the crumbling plaster was all about.
We had a quiet wander around the church and I took many pictures of the insides. The one I have ended up sharing with you however is not the crumbling plaster - for that see the extra on Nicoiseannie’ journal today here
My blip is one of the Anne of Cleeve’s panels that exist in the church. There are 4 panels which have been found to date to C16 and come from one of the houses in which she lived or stayed. A collection of national importance and absolutely amazing to see.
They are in varying degrees of condition, but then they have been around for quite a long time!
This is one from the chancel arch. Apparently the same design exists on AofC tombe in Westminster Abbey.
A lovely adventure, and of course we then retired for tea, down at the runway cafe in Shuttleworth.
