A long day
My first visit to St Kilda. Leaving the house at 7am then a three hour boat ride and we arrived on the island. Unfortunately half way across we went under a bank of grey cloud which stayed with us until our return to Uist.
A fascinating place however with a rich history. These structures called cleits - of which there are literally hundreds - were thought to have been used as stores for a variety of things. The bay in the background here is the main anchorage below the one village.
The return route took us around - under at times - the other stacks in the archipelago, including the second biggest gannetry in the world.
Landing back on Uist at 7pm after a long and fairly choppy crossing was almost a relief.
