Redshank

At this time of year, Redshank transform themselves from the birds that fly away when you appear on the horizon, calling loudly and flushing all the other birds too, to birds that defend their territory stridently from the nearest fence-post and won't fly away at all.
It helps one realise that they are really rather smart birds.
