The Cloch Bán
Stopped off in Clonroche for early dinner this evening, on the way home from Enniscorthy. Cloch bán (also written Cloughbawn - which is presumably the anglicised spelling) is the name of the Roman Catholic parish which includes the village of Clonroche. Cloch bán means white rock, and when we enquired about the large chunk of white rock in the corner of the pub, the waitress told us this was the actual white rock for which the parish (and the pub) is named. Hmmm.
We called there partly because it's been another busy day, and I thought W deserved an evening off cooking, but I wasn't offering. And partly because we need to get to know the local eating places. The meal wasn't gourmet, but it was exceedingly generous - three good sized plaice fillets each, with chips and salad. We didn't clear our plates.
The house painters have continued to work hard. I made a cushion for the swing seat. W went to physio. We had to go up to Enniscorthy as we didn't buy enough of the contrast paints. We may now have too much of those, but it remains to be seen if there is enough of the main colour - the render is very thirsty. The shop will happily take back unopened buckets. We also needed to get our preferred make of oat milk. Lidl own brand barista is by far the cheapest and tastes pretty good - but the Lidl in Wexford didn't have any in when we visited it a few days ago.
