Today's the day .......................... for Steampunk

Does anyone know what Steampunk  is?

The reason I'm asking is because from 17th - 18th June, the Inaugural Kirkcudbright Steampunk Weekend  is going to take place.  I've asked a few people what it's all about but no-one is very sure?  It doesn't seem to have much to do with 'steam' or 'punk' - or, at least, not what I understand by them.

The advertising posters say there will be 'fun frolics, glamour and glitter, Stalls, Costumes, Demonstrations, Music, Cabaret and so much more' .  So that leaves things quite open for practically anything to happen?!  

The above is the window of the Kirkcudbright Summer Festivities Charity Shop (complete with reflections from the opposite side of the street) with a few appropriately chosen items in anticipation of the weekend's fun and frolics.

It will be very interesting to see exactly what happens .......................!
