Journies at home

By journiesathome

The call came in the middle of the night as it always does and should.
At 4 a.m what are you meant to do?  We made tea and realised tea wasn't enough so we had a Gin and tonic and smoked a few cigarettes waiting for the day to break.

The day broke but only we knew still and at 6 a.m we were amongst a group of aging Arab men on the terrasse of Atmospher waiting for Zou to open.

By 7 we'd drunk 3 coffees but it was still too early to tell Lizzie.

Emma came at 7;30 and we switched to café cognacs and then went to tell Lizzie.

By 10 a.m it felt like the day should have ended but we found ourselves outside the hospital with my brother and Isaac fresh from the border.

The girl who showed us into the room had felt cherries around her neck .  There was a water fountain which we emptied, paper cup by paper cup.

We kissed Bobby's marble cold head and said goodbye.
