Gilknockie Tower.

A while ago, on my way to Edinburgh via the A7, I passed this historic monument.  At that time it was early morning and before the Tower opened for the season.  Hence that was why I visited today.  These fortified buildings are dotted around the border between England and Scotland, evidence of turbulent times.  This 'Pele Tower' was/is the 'seat' of Clan Armstrong.  This Clan was one of many Border Reivers families raiding similar buildings in England and stealing cattle.  The English also did the same.
Any animals were kept on the bottom floor in times of trouble with the family living on the top two floors.  To keep the smell down flowers were spread on the living area floors.  You are able to climb a spiral staircase to roof level and take in the views.
It was worth the visit to look at the historic 'bits and pieces,' including a room showing the achievements of Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon.
The extras show the spiral staircase, the Armstrong Room' and the Tower taken from a different angle, an angle my camera club friend recently showed me. (so it's his fault if you don't like it!)
