Graduation Day

What a wonderful day to celebrate our Kalyn on this special occasion!
Kalyn received a BA with Distinction, (Major Psychology, Minor Counselling and Human Development).  She has worked so hard to excel academically and athletically. We're all so very proud of this amazing, talented young woman.
Renata, James, G and I met Spencer at their place while Kalyn was picking up her cap and gown. Renata had a banner and balloons to decorate a bit. Then the five of us headed to the ceremony and had quick hugs from Kalyn when she spotted us. So fantastic to see her in her cap and gown!
It was a very hot day, around 30C, but we had seats in the shade near the back of the covered seating area and there was a bit of a breeze. There were 660 grads in this ceremony, so there were plenty of other spectators celebrating their grads. I got emotional when the SFU pipe band played before the ceremony then piped the grads into their seating area. I always love hearing the pipes, very appropriate for a grad with Scottish heritage too!
The speeches were all very good. We were too far away to get good photos of Kalyn crossing the stage to receive her degree but luckily there was a big screen. I couldn't get a good photo of the screen. The five of us cheered very loudly though! It was fun hearing cheering coming from other people when their grads crossed the stage. The ceremony was just over 2 hours long, not bad.
At the end of the ceremony, we walked around to take a few photos from differerent locations on campus, including the gym where Kalyn has spent many hours practicing and playing volleyball. She got the keys to the gym to let us in and it was great to get photos in there too. A couple of her teammates came by to congratulate her. After photos, we went back to their place to open gifts and pop a bottle of champagne. Not much time before dinner reservations, so we headed to the restaurant and had a delicious dinner.  Everything went so well, and G and I are very happy that we were able to witness this important event in Kalyn's life. A great day and evening, difficult to put into words how special it was for all of us.
We love that young woman to bits! Really missed Krista though, who is in Shawnigan Lake doing her community placement for her BEd.
Extras from different locations where we took photos. The third extra is Renata and Kalyn, the fourth is Spencer and Kalyn, and the fifth is my personal favourite with the wind cooperating with my reluctance to post a selfie. I have a photo of me giving Renata a kiss when she graduated from UVIC and wanted a similar one with Kalyn, but she's so tall I couldn't reach up to kiss her on the cheek! Ha!! Wish I had a good photo that included James and G. Maybe one of the others got a good one on their phones and will send it to me.
