Weird!

Went to Campbeltown to the launch of the exhibition Colmcille 1500. Today is St Columba's  Feast Day.  Personally I have issues with him as he's hailed as the be all and end all for bringing Christianity to Scotland. The other saints like Melrubha, Ciaran,  Ninian and a whole load of others who have almost been airbrushed out! Just cause Columba had a biographer Adomnan about 100  years after he died , he's almost become a cult.
Anyway I got an invite to the launch of this exhibition . Honestly I had never seen or heard of most of the audience. They  were obviously the great & the good of Argyll art but they serioulsy didn't have a clue about what was going on. There was an Irish poet who was a bit mental an academic Rosemary Power whom could have been quite interesting given more time. A singer from Ireland who is lovely & I happen to have worked with before  and Archie MacAllister probably the best fiddler in Argyll if not in Scotland and another guy who also sang in Gaelic.
The Irish contingent were well familiar with their language but the arty farties from Argyll hadn't a scooby  about gaelic or what was going on, apart from it was an opening exhibition about Columba!
AS for Bord na Gaidhlig as one of the major funders...they didn't even bother to turn up! The arty lady said they were all in Ireland! Believe that if you like!
Anyway the exhibition is worth a visit and I will find out where it is going  round Argyll.
Stunning sunset on the way home but I only had my phone so photos are rubbish.
