Scapes

Garlic scapes picked by John earlier, we chopped off the pointed end, tough, cut into small pieces and placed in a jar covered in a brine.

This is a green stalk growing from the top of the stem of planted garlic, it looks like a thick chive. If left the garlic will sprout tiny purple or white flower buds at the tips of the scapes. Apparently by trimming the stem this should encourage bulb growth. I read it could be used in a pesto type recipe, we have no idea how the jar of scapes soaked in brine will turn out, this is a first.

Extra shows them just after picking. Jack thought it was time to make an appearance on bf, he was looking cute this morning when playing with the small platform.
