Quinta de Terca
We’re on our travels again, this time to the Azores where L will be riding across the island of Sao Miguel while I amuse myself with photography. Hopefully it might give me some of my mojo back, which has been sadly lacking for some time.
We started out trip at 1:30 am with a wake up alarm, then driving down to Stansted airport before a four hour flight. We arrived late morning to warm but overcast conditions. A short drive from the airport to the farm which will be our home for the next week and a lovely welcome from our host, Christina, including a tour of the stables, before we settled down for a rest. We started to walk to the local beach only to turn around as the rain came down. It didn’t stop the rest of the day. The island is very green, so it’s not surprising that the weather is changeable.
The farm dates from the 1600s and is quirky. Our hosts are Swedish having moved here in 2002. We were regaled with many stories by Christina’s husband, Claude, who also took great pains to show me around his collection of vintage technology, from old hi fi sets to cameras, telephones to radios.
We met the other guests later, a cosmopolitan mix of Dutch, Spanish, German and Italian. Thankfully the common language is English. It does make me feel embarrassed at my lack of a foreign language.
Tomorrow, L starts her riding though the weather forecast could be better!
The image is one of their other collections, old saddles on the low wall next to the steps down to the dining room.
