Icecream Cones in Utah

Today was a lovely fine, sunny day - perfect temperatures - and we set off to go 4 wheeling up Cathedral Valley. It turned out we didn't need the 4 wheel drive except to cross a river ford, but the road was unpaved and very rough. It was a great fun 53 mile ride through the Cathedral Valley - miles and miles of cathedral-like spires rising from the valley floor, past the Temples of the Sun and Moon, and back down Harnet through tbe Benonite Hills where we saw these two beauties.

Bentonite clay is extremely sticky and any moisture makes the roads impassible. There were huge mounds of hills in grey and red that looked smooth and round until you got closer and could see the tiny cracks where the clay had dried in the sun.

I know these aren't quite rounded like an icecream would be, but they sure look like the chocolate layer is melting.
