Irresistible?

On the last predicted sunny day for a while we took ourselves off for a picnic.

Starting out with coffee at Smeaton Nurseries, we were joined at the table by the resident black pheasant - we'd met before but not in the outside seating. In the sunshine his iridescent colours gleamed - extra 1 those of his head. Eventually Mr Flum was worn down by the pleading face and offered a few crumbs from his scone - sadly I had nothing to offer.

After stopping for the obligatory snap of Tantallon Castle and the Bass rock (extra 2), we joined a goodly number of folk on the Seacliff beach, each with our own space, put up our chairs and settled in to enjoy our picnic. It's a great place for people-watching - various activities of adults paddle-boarding, kayaking, swimming (sooner them than me); children building sandcastles, wet-suited young lads practicing standing on boards. all under careful supervision. All the while the gannets were whirling round the guano-covered Bass, and, closer to shore, diving for fish, three cormorants glided across the water and martins wheeled overhead.

We were there some three and a half hours, and, when the tide began to recede, so did we. Maybe the rain will come tomorrow - who cares, today was lovely.
