Pointing At The Sky

My Dear Princess,

Tonight Libby was back! I was so excited to see her! She and Abi joined me for dinner at Masala's, an Indian place where I figured we had a better chance of finding vegetarian/vegan food.

Separately I love them to death. Together they are

SO

FREAKING

ADORABLE!!!!

They are separated by just 10 months and they are SOOOO sisters. There's this connection between them that made me feel like a foreigner at our dinner. They communicate with looks and giggles and just KNOW what the other means. I was left leaning forward because what? What? What did I just miss?

I'll never know. There's like a wifi connection between the brains of Abi and Libby and I don't have the password.

So it was SO CUTE when they came in together. I watched in delight as they giggled to each other and pointed at things and then then giggled some more.

"Look at all those PEAS," said Libby.

"I know. PEAS," replied Abi.

There was something about how they pronounced PEAS that set them off. I can't pretend to understand but then I'm not supposed to.

PEAS are just for them.

Libby caught me up with what she's been doing - namely studying evolutionary anthropology at uni. She explained what she meant to me and I wanted to gape like a slack-jawed yokel.

What's that? There's a thing called biopsychology now? And how does this relate to evolutionary anthropology? And how does it relate to archaeological digs? And...

OH MY GOD HOW DID YOU GET SO SSSSSMAAAAAART??

I am honestly blown away by both of them. But Libby is so articulate. She wanted me to understand. Not just the bio-anthro-diggy stuff or whatevs. She wants me to understand HER. She told me about her work and her friends and she comes across as someone driven but also caring. She's on a journey but she wants her fellow students to COME WITH HER. It's a Libby adventure world of delight and discovery.

And in short, I envy her fellow students.

But Libby even seemed to want to let me in to the relationship she has with her sister. Like she wanted to give me the Rosetta Stone into why she and Abi are the way they are.

OH MY GOD IS SHE GOING TO EXPLAIN WHY PEAS ARE FUNNY??

Libby explained some incidents from that past that I'd only seen from the periphery. The sisters have been through a lot. There were things I'd never heard before and I realised how extraordinary these two are. They seem like such happy, balanced, smart and caring women - but they've been through a lot of stuff.

They should be more bitter than they are. The fact that they are not illustrates a light and strength within them both that makes me so proud.

Libby seemed so confident tonight. She loves her study and she sees the world opening up to her. I could see the future dancing in her eyes, and even I got excited for her.

We stayed and stayed at Masala's. Bridlington - as I may have mentioned - is a town that closes early and soon we were the only ones left in the restaurant. I could have stayed for much longer. I love these funny, sparky, indomitable women so much. But Libby had been travelling so she drove me back to my hotel and we said goodnight and -

OH MY GOD I FORGOT MY KNICKERS

Right. So here's what happened. I packed light coming over here and brought only enough clothes to get me to Friday. So I went to my dad's place and did my laundry there before hanging it up outside.

Abi had taken it down off the clothesline for me and I had stupidly left it in Libby's car.

YOU FORGOT YOUR UNDERWEAR

LIBBY IS COMING BACK WITH IT

Texted Abi.

This was good because a) underwear but also b) I had forgotten to get a selfie with Libby. You need to see how beautiful she is if only to wonder how she is related to me. So today's blip is taken in the street outside my hotel. I am in jammies and bare feet. Libby thought this was hilarious because silly old Uncle Symon.

It was strange seeing Libby on her own after tonight. She and Abi are a matching pair of souls, joined by a silvery light of love, laughter and (for some reason) pointing at things that others cannot see. All I can do is watch and marvel.

It's like marvelling at the sky. Some things you can only appreciate from a distance. But still it is beautiful.
