Australian lyrebird

Staying in the Blue Mountains with son and his family, I had a late afternoon run. Asked tsuken for a route, and was given a pleasant course through the edges of the National Park forest nearby. Just before I emerged back onto the road to head back to the house, I heard some scratching in the undergrowth. It took me a little while to spot the origin.

Right on the edge of a steep drop, was this lyrebird. I think it is either a juvenile male, or a female. I was uneasy about trying to get any closer, and there was a lot between me and the bird.

Of the shots I took, this was my favourite, showing the head and the neck and chest sharply. It is best seen large.
