Murder On The Dance Floor
The Bank Pensioners Club had arranged for us to have four tables at a Murder Mystery Evening taking place at Barton Manor Hotel (usually the scene of our Christmas dinners) and run by the After Dark company.
The format of the evening was a three course meal interspersed with set pieces from our actors designed to give us clues as to which one of them is a murderer. There was no actual body - in fact, we had to firstly deduce which of four suspicious deaths we were told about was murder rather than an accident as a result of a curse.
In between courses the actors wandered around the tables so we could ask them questions to try and work out which one was the killer. There was also an “Inspector” who acted as MC and helped direct our deductions.
The meal was excellent and the performances superb. The theme was loosely Pirates of the Caribbean, and the characters were (from L to R) Jim Ladd, Captain Blackbeard, Mack Pigeon(!) and Captain Bandelero. I took against one of the characters from the off and decided that they were the murderer. The rest of our table took a more methodical and deductive approach. At the end, we had to write down the answers to some questions based on what we’d seen and heard, and then name the murderer with reasons why.
The “detectives” on our table arrived at the same name as me, based on solid deduction - and we were proved right! In fact, our table came third overall and best of the Pensioners Club group.
So, who do you think “dunnit” based purely on appearance? I’ll be interested to see if anyone else has the same Hercule Poirot instincts as me…
