Here there and everywhere

Gabriel García Márquez Library

I’d read about this all-wood library a while ago and was keen to go and see it. Then, having recently read that the building had been chosen as one of the top libraries in the world, I was even keener! We visited it today and in a new barrio for us, Sant Martí. What an amazing place and so good to see a library in full use - as they tend to be here in the city. People of all ages, reading books, newspapers and magazines, working on laptops, and one young guy was fast asleep in one of the comfortable swinging chairs! There were so many lovely areas in which to relax. It was also hosting part of a South American literature festival, as well holding a music performance in the theatre area downstairs. We made our way up and down the 1500 metres on four floors, oo-ing and ah-ing. Well worth a visit and now let’s see if the building wins first prize next month. Oh, and I did borrow four CDs, which I’ll return to my local library. You’re allowed to borrow up to 30 items for a month!
