Diary of an Edinburgher

How's yer lum?

Another lovely warm, hat-less day! Two in a row! Is this summer/spring? Best not get over-excited.

I decided to do bit more of the Water of Leith Walkway, so I got a bus to the Visitors' Centre and walked back into town. I was on the sunny side the whole way, and boy, was it hot.

The river was lovely - I kept stopping and watching for wildlife, hopefully a kingfisher. There were plenty of insects over the water. But all I saw were a couple of ducks.

At one point I thought I saw a plop in the water near a big stone. I sat and waited for ages. Maybe a dipper? Maybe a water vole? Nothing.

Then a wee rustling sound - No! something's on the bank. I scoured the bank, looking for a small furry animal. Then another rustling, heard clearly above the drone of the nearby traffic.

Then I located the rustler.

Not a wee hairy animal, but a big hairless one - a lorry driver had parked up right by the wall, and his window was open. He was eating his sandwiches. I should have blipped him - he was the nearest I got to wildlife today!

There was a grumpy woman losing patience with her old spaniel, shouting at it to hurry up. I passed her on the way back again, still scowling with the old dog trotting along behind. How can you be grumpy when you're out for a nice walk with your dog?

On the way back I stopped off at this shop. I've been meaning to blip it for ages, but haven't been over that side of town for a while. I tried to get rid of some of the reflections. What a window. I stood and looked in it for ages.

I was fair puggled when I got home. Just as well I hadn't been carrying a new Canon EOS 5D!

'Lang may yer lum reek!'
