Mangroves

Today the workshop in Lindi ended and I journeyed with two colleagues to Kilwa further up the coast. We are fitting in a couple more days of field visits, whilst we’re in the vicinity.

We arrived at the lovely beach in Kilwa in time for sunset, and we ventured into the mangroves for a stroll among the rocks and mud as the tide was low. I enjoy the weird and wonderful aspects of mangroves as they always reveal interesting sights and formations. If you don’t love mangroves for their environmental functions (fish nursery grounds, protection from storm surges, etc.) then enjoy them for their gnarly roots.
