Summer Solstice

It is the summer solstice today and Orkney celebrated it with sunshine save for the crucial time of the 4am sunrise at the Ring of Brodgar when it didn’t appear at all.

The early mist in Stromness meant a mirror calm sea which made for easy swimming. It will be a double dook day as a solstice swim has been organised for 10pm tonight.

It’s not often that it feels too hot in Orkney, but the flat felt like a hothouse and outside with little shade available was hot too.
I am certainly not complaining. I just wish I could bottle the heat for use in the Dower House during the winter. The library was cool and my retreat at midday.
