Dover
It was a bad day for the boys today. We made a detour from Dover castle to the White Cliffs of Dover so that Hugh and Henry could watch the state of Origin. By half time they had come to join us in the cafe (where the girls were enjoying crème tea) as the prospect of winning had dropped so low. They decided to head back to the car with their ‘gourmet’ hot chocolates (piled high with cream and marshmallows) to watch the end of the game when Hugh released the seat to move forward flinging Henry’s barely consumed gourmet hot chocolate across the car, all over his favourite watch that Jane had just broken. After cleaning up the car, we heading out over the cliffs, (which were spectacular). I had anticipated about a 10 minute walk. Jane and I headed up the back of the pack to walk at Jane’s pace, picking abundant wildflowers along the way. After about an hour we caught up with the others at the light house. According to Hugh, he was following instructions from his older sister when he attempted to box jump onto the table and ended up with skinned knees that pained him all the way back. Henry also struggled on the way back, whilst the girls seemed to enjoy the walk along the cliffs. Graham didn’t escape unscarred. He has been struggling with gout since we arrived, and the unexpectedly long walk did not help. He was quite a sight by the end, hobbling along with Jane (who had long since given up walking) on his back. After this adventure it was too late to go to Dover Castle.. hopefully tomorrow! We have now arrived at Folkestone and are enjoying wine and cheese by the water. Everyone’s spirits appear to have been revived and everyone is in a good mood again. Rather happy I am one of the girls today!
