St Demhan's Cross

Situated in a field adjacent to Creich Kirkyard and with superb views across the Dornoch Firth, St Demhan's ( possibly a corruption of Devenic)Cross dates from between 561 AD and 1057 AD. There is an incised Celtic cross with rounded armpits on the Landward face of the cross. It is thought to be either a preaching cross or to mark St Demhan's burial place.

The adjacent church, dedicated to St Devenic, was built in 1790 and was in use at the end of the 19th century but partially demolished in 1963. The remains are shown in the extra.
