Fathers' Day (warm up)

We drove home from Leicester, this morning, while Dan and Abi were driving up from Sheffield. Abi and Milly had been to see Harry Styles in London, last night - and LOVED it - and Abi and Dan were coming to Salford together, going via Sheffield to pick up her car.

Once we were together, the three of us walked down to Hannah's and then we all set off for Whalley Range, where we were meeting Charlie at the Carlton Club for a 'cook out', which was being held for charity.

I wouldn't say that we're a family of walkers in the sense that we go out rambling or anything, but we'll all happily go on foot instead of taking public transport if there's time, and this journey was just under three miles. (Today's Blip is of Dan, Abi, and Hannah on the bridge we took across the Irwell.)

Happily, I was able to fulfil my paternal duties en route as we encountered an ice cream, and I treated the three of them. What a simple pleasure!

To be honest, the event at the Carlton Club wasn't terribly well organised; the ratio of bar staff and food servers to customers was not good and resulted in some long queues, but once we'd got some drinks and finished grumbling, we had a good time.

And in the evening, after Charlie had gone to meet some friends, Dan, Abi, Hannah, and I hung out in the garden with the Minx, enjoying the fire pit as the warmth of the day waned, until it was time for Abi to leave - she starts a new job in the morning - and Dan and I walked Hannah home.
