Stop motion water
J and I finally got round to a bit of animation. We need to do lots of little trials to see how various parts of a planned project will work and what we might need to rethink. It's a project which has been around for a long time, and we'd really like to finish it: J's two PAs have worked with her on a lot of planning and cutting out, the silhouette images look really pretty, and now it really needs me to spend some time helping her with the animation. I do want to.... but it takes a lot of time to set up and clear away each time, and it's such a busy time of year for gardening and produce. This ninety minute session yielded a series of test shots to establish exposure settings, which will now be re-used next time, and about one second of animation, which taught us that I need to move the water in tinier steps than I imagined, and that it should not jiggle up and down as it flows. We also need to cut a smaller scale pair of herons if we want to see its whole reflection. We can't go wider, as the width of the shot is constrained by the size of the A3 light box. Next time, as well as resolving these issues, we will try making the heron fly.
