Ducks in paradise

I've been a little hesitant to blip the ducks in their pool because the pool makes me cringe just a bit. Last year Dan built us a cistern to hold lots of water but in the end it failed. He found this pool from someone on line giving it away. So it didn't wind up in a landfill and it will be one of our new cisterns and will hold about 5000 gallons but it is still a giant amount a plastic, luckily hidden away behind the house. AND of course the ducks are absolutely thrilled with it. They spend much of their time floating/sleeping/ resting on the blue board that is floating in there and pooping in the water. I guess it will make really good nutrient rich water to pump onto the garden when we eventually need it. But certainly no swimming in it for us!
Dan has stacked up wood for steps for them to get in. It really is funny and nice that they actually get to swim. It's also quite a safe place for them to be. Too bad chickens don't like to swim too.
*Edit* I meant to write this earlier and forgot. Mom and Judy did end up cancelling their trip. They have booked for the end of September which I think will be perfect. Now for a few days of just relaxing, sort of...
