Kinneil House
Kinneil House is a Historic Environment Scotland property on the outskirts of Bo’ness. Up until last night, when I was looking for somewhere to go today, I had never heard of it. The house itself is only open on a Saturday, between April and September but the extensive grounds and woodlands are always open. Our guide told us that when you walk through the front door, the house has the ‘wow factor, but maybe not the one the Duchess of Hamilton intended in the late 1670’s’, she was right! Now, when you walk through the door of the impressive facade, you are faced with a demolition site, it is quite breathtaking and not like anything I have seen before. The building was being dismantled in the 1930’s for demolition when stunning wall paintings from the 1500’s and 1600’s were discovered and thankfully it was saved. A very interesting place to visit.
