The Princess and the Dog

Foot Etiquette

Dear O'H dear and Lovely Tea Jenny,

This morning The Eldest Mini Princess and I went for a swim at Gullane with Murphy in his new doggy life jacket which meant he could stay in with us for the whole time without getting tired. It took a moment for him to adjust to not having to paddle as hard but then he LOVED it. Happily swimming along next to us, happily swimming next to him. It was a genuine Kodak moment.

This afternoon, on the bus home from the hairdresser today, a woman and her granddaughter (around 15) came and were sitting opposite each other next to me.

The woman was talking about an issue with her foot. She slipped her flip flop off and put her foot up on the seat to show her granddaughter.

The granddaughter was horrified. “Did you just put your actual toes on the seat?”

Woman: “Well yeah but I took my shoe off so the seat wouldn’t get dirty””

GD: “And put your ACTUAL toes on the seat. Next to that woman” (me)

It was taking all my effort not to giggle and keep staring out the window.

GD: “Buses are already dirty. I wouldn’t wear a pair of white jeans on a bus. Look”

She started hitting the seat in the space between us, creating a little cloud of dust before brushing it away.

GD: “If you put your shoe on me and it was dirty, I could just wipe the dirt away but if it was your toes, IT WOULD STAY”

Woman: “Did you just cover the woman (me) in dust”

At which point the giggles escaped and they both had a weird moment of horror as they realised that I could actually hear them and started apologising.

“Don’t worry,” I assured them. “I won’t ever wear white jeans on a bus!”
