Val Popena Alta, Dolomites

Another stunning walk today. 10 km, 600m ascent/descent. We set off quite early again and soon left the busy area behind and only saw a handful of people for the rest of the walk. Beautiful views, flowers. The climb to the abandoned Rifugio Popena was interesting. The guide book mentioned some scree and a wooden walkway but the scree was exposed and so were the wooden steps! See extras. The hike down along the valley was beautiful and we can understand why the area is a UNESCO site.

The weather was cloudy today with only and touch of sun and the forecast isn’t great towards the weekend. We might have to rethink our plans.
