Life through the lens...

Nunnington Hall

A rather dull day with just the odd light shower which we managed to avoid.

We visited Nunnington Hall on the banks of the River Rye.
A dwelling has been recorded here from 1249 but this house has grown out of a Tudor Hall.
Tenants from that period include Catherine Parr’s brother, William, whose estates were forfeited to the crown due to his involvement in royal plots.
After many charges of ownership,
In 1920 Margaret Fife inherited both Newby Wiske and Nunnington Hall, and sold Newby Wiske to fund the halls transformation to a family home.
In 1978 the family moved to a house in the village and gave the hall to the National Trust.

Today we also saw an exhibition of the British Wildlife a Photography Awards.
Fabulous.

There is also a wonderful collection of miniature rooms. See extra.
A very enjoyable visit which also included the gardens.

Called in at Helmsley on the way back, and had a wander round.

A very good day even if the sun didn’t shine.
