Life on the Fells

Another trot up to close to High Cup Nick the entry to which can be seen below the horses.. This view looks more or less south west over the upper Eden Valley to the Howgills. The pointed hill in the middle distance is Murton Pike.

The Fell Ponies live up here all the year round and are owned by local people. I thought for some time that they were wild. They are really tough to survive up here and it's quite strange to see them when the whole of the upper fells are covered in snow as nothing else lives here. Some tap up walkers for treats but I met this herd of about 3 adults and 3 foals on the way down. At seeing a runner they took off at great speed. Lovely day for running, cool, dry underfoot and with great views.
